Our highly anticipated debut episode with Joseph Mount has arrived! Filmed at Motorbass in Paris, the Metronomy frontman walks us through the process of writing and producing the band’s 2011 hit “The Bay”. Mount explains that the project took years of intermittent work and many changes in direction before everything fell into place. He opens an early demo session at Logic Pro, demonstrating how a simple drone has become the basis of a recording. As he progresses through each version of the song, we can hear the track getting closer and closer to the finish line. Along the way, Joseph talks about his experiences collaborating with other people, writing lyrics, overcoming his insecurities as a singer, and uncovering some of the innovative production techniques that gave the song such a recognizable aesthetic.
