Musical Sampling – The Upright

Master Legato: This is the main patch for legato, which contains three different legato articulations; each is individually activated depending on velocity.

Velocities 41-90 – the main range where natural plucked legato articulation is used – your bread and butter. The intervals written for this go all the way up to the 3rd major degree

Velocities 1-40 are your slides in the plucked articulation, which is exactly that; a slide of the string to the target note, which is then plucked (from C minor 3rd to octave). In C major 2nd, this legato speed activates the slide no pluck articulation. You can adjust the speed of these slides with the modulation wheel.

Bonus Beefy Legato: This was more of an experiment; we recorded the C major 2nd legato intervals in a more aggressive/impulsive way. Good for more laid back, walking bass lines.

The Performance Sustains patch is a real workhorse; it consists of samples taken from carefully selected phrases, which improves tone, consistency and fluidity.

Body Perc includes a selection of slaps, thuds, sliding frets and room tones – all mapped below the playing range of the upright bass. With this setup, you can turn on both patches at the same time and jam.
