Who would have thought that a violin-shaped electric bass with a limited range would become the foundational bass sound of much of the Beatles’ discography? With a sharp attack and smooth sustain, this little bass delivers all the low-end punch you need to build the foundation of your music, as well as the rich sustain you need to create melodic and memorable bass lines. Speaking of melodic, there’s a slight “twang” to its sound, likely due to its hollow body construction rather than the solid body of most electric basses. While it’s undoubtedly an electric bass, this characteristic lends a subtle acoustic edge to the sound.

The Evolution Vintage Violin Bass delivers that coveted tone with the level of detail that is typical of the Evolution series . The library covers both pick and fingerstyle playing, open and partially muted combinations, and other articulations. We recorded the neck and bridge pickup signals separately, giving you control over how they blend for added tonal flexibility. The neck pickup delivers warm, rich lows, while the bridge pickup adds brightness and definition.

We developed the library in collaboration with Rosewood Recording Company, one of Utah’s most respected recording studios. Guy Randle , the company’s owner and engineer, used analog audio equipment to skillfully convey and highlight the instrument’s rich tonal qualities. Evolution Vintage Violin Bass contains both clean and processed signals.
