Stringer contains sample sets of ARP Omni II, Logan String Melody II and Welson Symphony in two engines that can be mixed and layered:
The sound of a sample-based instrument depends heavily on how the samples were converted, recorded, chopped, and looped. You can never get back what you’ve lost, for example, due to a bad clock generator.
For Stringer, every key of the original instruments was sampled using top-notch Apogee converters. The samples were recorded at full 24-bit/44.1 kHz to capture every detail. A great deal of time was spent perfectly restoring and looping the 241 samples—loop lengths up to four seconds—while preserving the original rhythms. The resulting sound is outstanding and virtually indistinguishable from the original.
The real string machines used for this project are highly sought after, but are very expensive and rare on the used market:
The Logan String Melody II was built in 1978 in Italy and distributed in Germany by Hohner. It has a very rich, full-bodied sound.
The ARP Omni II is the successor to the Omni I and Solina. The Solina string sound was the quintessential string sound of the 1970s and 1980s, used on virtually every stage and recording.
The Welson Symphony is a very rare Italian string machine. It was developed by WEBO electronics.
