Sonus Paradisi – St. Maximin, Provence

The organ of the Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Madelaine, located in the commune of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume in the south-east of France in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The organ was built in 1772-1775 by the French organ builder, monk Jean-Esprit Isnard. This instrument is one of the few historical French organs that miraculously survived the French Revolution and has survived to this day in almost unchanged original condition. The organ has 43 registers (including 14 reed registers), 4 manuals and a pedal keyboard.

The distribution includes two editions – the original and the extended. The original edition completely replicates the original organ in terms of the disposition and range of the keyboards, with the exception of the virtually added C-sharp key in the small octave, which is absent in the original instrument.

In the extended edition

  • the keyboard range is increased to 56 keys in the manuals and 32 in the pedal,
  • the pedal is independent of the third manual (in the original – rigidly copied with it),
but uses the registers from this manual as transmission.
  • the Flute 8′ register of the first manual is replaced by Flute 4′, which was provided for

It adds optimization of the Left Jamb and Right Jamb tabs for display in portrait mode.
