Basic moments
Clear speech is the most important element of audio storytelling in streaming content, film and television. Nuendo 12 includes many new features and improvements to help ensure that dialogue is not only heard clearly, but that audio engineers and post-production studios can work as quickly, accurately and efficiently as possible. With all-new features for recording and editing dialogue, creating headphone-based binaural mixes, and more, Nuendo 12 is truly the home of dialogue.
Dialog Editing
Nuendo 12 brings significant improvements to dialogue track cleanup and editing, helping you deliver clear, natural-sounding speech while minimizing dialogue editing time. New features and enhancements that solve the problems audio editors face include AI-powered dialogue detection, a one-click feature that removes unwanted noise from a track and leaves only parts of the dialogue. Nuendo 12 also adds the ability to align multiple clips from location records across multiple links, make subtle timing adjustments without complex workarounds, and seamlessly integrate third-party technologies designed to make life easier for audio editors.
Auto-Align® stand support
The distance between the lavaliers and the boom can change as the actors move, shifting the phase over time. Nuendo 12 has seamless integration with the Post 2 auto-alignment feature, making it much easier to time and phase align continuously moving microphones. Integrated as an ARA 2 plug-in, it simply turns on the automatic recording alignment function and selects the reference audio track. The process is non-destructive, the original sound is always intact and ready for immediate playback or reprocessing.
Even More Editing Improvements
o Nuendo 12 offers many new detail tools and shortcuts for editing audio event fades, including a new size with the fade modifier key.
o You can now also use key commands to increase or decrease the selection in all four directions, including moving the selection itself.
o There is a new option to create or change the length of the fade when resizing events by holding down a modifier key and using the selection tool.
o You can now assign key commands to edit slides in addition to using the mouse and tool modifiers.
Recording Dialogue
As the birthplace of dialogue, in Nuendo 12 we have paid special attention to the challenges of recording dialogue. Not only have we updated the user interface of ADR Taker, but we’ve also added new features and smart improvements, whether you’re preparing for an ADR session, a language dub project for Netflix, or using third-party apps whose scripts you want to quickly and easily import into Nuendo. These features will save you hours of time and make tasks less repetitive, radically improving your workflow.
Netflix’s TTAL dialogue script support
Nuendo 12 supports the import and export of TTAL files, Netflix’s proprietary scripting format for working on language dubbing projects. The content of the TTAL script is converted into write-ready ADR markers, including dialog text, symbols, and useful metadata such as screen on/off notifications, etc. Script modification decisions made during ADR creation can be documented in the Nuendo marker editor and returned to the workflow using the TTAL export feature.
Connecting to EdiCue
Nuendo 12 supports EdiCue v4, the award-winning ADR signaling application. Creating cues in Nuendo using the EdiCue project interface window allows dialogue managers to load character text from PDF shooting scripts and apply the necessary properties to ensure a smooth recording session. Cue data is stored in Nuendo loop markers for instant recording. Alternatively, EdiCue can import cue data from EdiCue PDF cue tables to send directly to Nuendo ready for recording. You can also import data from Nuendo cycle markers directly into EdiCue and export customized control sheets as PDF.
Immersive mixing
Nuendo has always been at the forefront. It was the first app to introduce advanced content creation, remote virtual content, and the first DAW to offer full content creation in Dolby Atmos. Now Nuendo 12 is making another volume A c with new improvements in automation.
Nuendo 12 Space Controller OSC control support
also includes full Space Controller OSC support. Developed by Sound Particles – experts in immersive audio tools – the Space Controller OSC connects a mobile device to Nuendo and links the device’s physical movements to the software, giving full control over its panning tools by simply pointing the phone where the user wants the sounds to come from.
Headphones fit
When listening through headphones, many factors affect the sound, including intended use, build quality, materials, and more. In order to reliably judge the frequency and spatial area of binaural content in headphones, neutral frequency response is vital. The Headphones Match plug-in uses an FFT-based spectral operator to apply an accurate compensation curve to the monitor output for 387 different headphone models from 100 manufacturers. It is measured in a controlled identical environment with over 500 frequency points per curve. You can also emulate the sound of another pair of headphones with this plugin.
Sound Design and Music Features
Nuendo 12 comes with advanced sound design and music features. There are new and improved FX plugins, better integration with external controllers and of course all the music features of Cubase 12. This ensures that Cubase projects will run smoothly in Nuendo without losing data or audio information when cross-updating.
Improving workflow and productivity
Whether you work in film, TV, game audio or any other audio company, we are always listening to our Nuendo users to learn about the new features and improvements they need in the world’s leading sound design software and post-production. Nuendo 12 includes several user-requested updates that will improve workflow and performance across a wide range of different tasks throughout the app.

MORE IMPROVEMENTS
Smooth waveform drawing
Waveform drawing is now much smoother, making it easier to view and edit audio with high fidelity.
Performance Improvements
We’ve improved Nuendo’s performance for navigating and zooming in large projects, making it faster and more responsive than ever before.
New Cursor Key Commands
Key commands can be assigned to jump backward or forward by 5, 10, or 20 seconds on the timeline.
Sample Editor: UI Improvements
The Sample Editor now also uses updated UI controls for various sections, further improving consistency within the application.
Sound event display options
There is a new preference for showing or hiding the audio file name in addition to the selectable attribute. The name of the clip (usually the file name) is displayed next to the selected event attributes in brackets.
Zooming and Scrolling with Trackpad, Magic Mouse, and Mouse Wheel
Zooming and scrolling with the mouse wheel or trackpad has been improved in all Editor, MediaBay, and MixConsole windows.
Video Engine Update
The video engine in Nuendo 12 features improved performance and stability. For macOS users, OpenGL is no longer required, providing native support for Apple silicon.
Hang Detection (Windows only)
Hang Detection checks to see if the main UI thread hangs for an extended period of time at regular intervals. When a hang is detected, the hang detection creates a dump file.
Audio Engine Improvements
The performance of all reroute actions has been improved. Nuendo 12 now also supports AMD Threadripper’s latest generation of high-core processors.
Independent Grid Settings for Nudge Edits
You can now separate Nudge edits from Snap/Grid settings, allowing you to work with the bars/beats grid for editing with the mouse, but changing positions and length with the Nudge keys.
