There are many powerful equalizer plugins. So why did we create a plugin version of MPEQ-1?

The legendary MPEQ-1 hardware equalizer does things even most digital equalizers can’t. But despite years of requests to bring it to the world of plug-ins, we were in no rush—because we felt that if we did, we’d bring something truly new to the digital world. Just as the MPEQ-1 hardware equalizer was unprecedented in the analog realm, the plug-in had to be unprecedented in the digital realm.

This is exactly what we achieved with the MPEQ-1 Super-Parametric Saturation Equalizer plugin.

Review

The plugin offers everything the hardware does: variable shape, exceptionally versatile filters, a wide range of Q-adjustment, and a unique Vari-Phase mode. We’ve painstakingly recreated everything that made the original iconic.

But the plugin’s capabilities don’t stop there. Each EQ band now has its own dedicated saturation stage, allowing you to add rich harmonic coloration at every stage. Boost the high frequencies to saturation, while developing the low mids and leaving the lows clean. Push the fundamental frequency of the snare drum until it resonates, while maintaining the clarity of the highs. This kind of control is truly unprecedented.

This is a new type of equalizer, and once you work with it, you will find it difficult to go back to your old tools.

The MPEQ-1 plugin’s features and controls are identical to those of the hardware device, but there are some important additions. We’ve added a completely new distortion section: the degree and style of distortion can be adjusted for each band. We’ve also added a beautiful RTA with exceptionally high low-frequency resolution. The EQ bands can be controlled directly on the RTA using familiar digital parameter controls or via the graphical interface located below.
