Cherry Audio – Rackmode v1.4.0 for WiN

Rackmode Signal Processors is a collection of seven virtual effects and an instrument plug-in that reproduce the classic Moog rackmount signal processors of the 1970s and 1980s. This exclusive collection is the first recreation of the entire line of famous analog devices as virtual effects. Rackmode also marks our latest collaboration with award-winning synthesizer designer and digital signal processing legend Mark Barton (MRB), who modeled the accurate circuit emulation based on the original rackmount hardware.

Peculiarities

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Moog Music Inc. (then owned by Norlin Music, Inc.) wanted to expand into studio production. They created the Signal Processor family of rack-mounted products, which included a 16-channel vocoder (designed by pioneer Harald Bode), a 12-stage phaser, and a 10-band graphic and 3-band parametric equalizer. Other accompanying rack-mounted products included a frequency shifter and ring modulator, both designed by Harald Bode, as well as a unique string filter created by Moog Custom Engineering.

Moog Signal Processors have found their way into production facilities around the world, both past and present. Artists such as Wendy Carlos, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Tangerine Dream, John Carpenter, Genesis, Jan Hammer, Mouse on Mars, and Coldplay have used them to create their unique sounds. Producers such as Giorgio Moroderi, Mike Elizondo, and Sylvia Massy have called these “black boxes” the most prized pieces of their studio equipment. Today, these devices are becoming increasingly rare, fetching prices far exceeding their original cost—if they can be found at all.
