Guarneri Violin – “Prince Doria”

Stradivari may be the most famous violin maker in the world, but many great performers and composers consider del Gesù (Giuseppe Guarneri’s nickname) to be the best. The second violin in the Cremona Quartet is his “Prince Doria”, made in 1734.

GUARNERI VIOLIN is part of Native Instruments’ Cremona Quartet series. While Antonio Stradivari was arguably the most famous violin maker, Guarneri del Gesu is considered by many of the world’s most prominent musicians and composers to be the best.

Accompanying Stradivari’s Vesuvius, Guarneri del Gesu’s Prince Doria violin was created in 1734. During the painstaking recording of this virtual instrument, the streets of Cremona came to a halt as the council closed roads, car parks, and urged the city’s residents to stay as quiet as possible.

Meanwhile, inside the Giovanni Arvedi Auditorium, designed by acoustics pioneer Yasuhisa Toyota, Hamburg’s electronic instruments picked up every note of the violin using 32 carefully selected microphones placed throughout the hall to enable this digital re-creation of a historic masterpiece.

The instrument contains 20 different professionally played articulations, each with up to five legato transitions. In addition, the innovative Performance-Captured Vibrato technology simulates the professional musician’s natural vibrato technique, while the Stereo Phase-Aligned Dynamic Crossfades eliminate phasing between dynamic transitions. The combination of these features makes GUARNERI VIOLIN one of the most realistic recreated solo violins.
