Stuttermation is a timeline-based stuttering, glitch, resampling, and sound design multi-effect for Windows VST3. Instead of relying on MIDI triggers or fixed LFO patterns, you can draw effect blocks directly on the timeline, synced with your DAW.
Each block is a separate sound design event with independent parameters for sync, tempo, source, playback, gating, probability, envelopes, effects, multiband processing, and mixing. Create precise rhythmic edits, speed-up glitches, reverse cuts, mid-track dropouts, pitch shifts, resonant textures, lo-fi destruction, animated stereo effects, and full-fledged loop transformations all in a single plugin.
Main functions
Timeline-based Builder: Draw, resize, move, highlight, copy, paste, and arrange blocks on a DAW-synced timeline up to 500 bars long. Includes snapping controls, cursor-centered zooming, smooth scrolling, auto-scrolling, an interactive minimap, and source markers.
Block-slicing mechanism: Tempo determines the structure of musical fragments, and buffer length, pitch, reversibility, alternation, pause, gate and other processing parameters shape each fragment without changing their total number.
Tempo and ultra-fast tempos: Set the start and end tempo or create your own. Available tempos range up to 1/4096th—from slow rhythmic repeats to micro-stutters.
Flexible playback: Choose between forward, reverse, or alternate playback. Pause mode provides slower, tape-style playback while maintaining the rhythmic structure of the block.
Musical Buffer Control: Shorter buffer lengths play only the selected portion of each fragment, after which the audio fades to silence. Longer values maintain a consistent cutoff pattern without unwanted repetition and pitch shifts.
Advanced Source Selection: Grab from the start of a block, moving the playhead, a fixed offset, or a reusable source marker placed on the timeline.
Source Morphing: Morph between two audio sources within a block. Use fixed transitions, envelopes, and other motion modes, including independent adjustments of low, mid, and high frequency sources in multiband mode.
Block-based multiband processing: Compatible envelopes can operate in traditional full-band mode or in split mode with independent curves for low, mid, and high frequencies. Common crossover controls include adjustable frequencies and slopes of 12, 24, or 48 dB/oct.
Deep Envelope System: Shaping Frequency, Gate, Tape, Pitch, Volume, High-Pass, Low-Pass, Drive, Bit Reduction, Sampling Reduction, Frequency Shift, Flanger, Ring Modulation, Width, Panning, Add, Asymmetry, Mid/Side Balance, Bit Error, Noise, Dispersion, and Resonator Processing.
Resizable Effects Chain: Pitch remains fixed at the desired position before cutoff, while compatible post-effects can be rearranged within the block by dragging their envelope tabs.
Input Follower: Apply the dynamics of the incoming signal to compatible effects, adjusting the envelope depth for smooth rhythmic and tonal movement.
Gate and Transition Control: Truncate, Fade, and T-Safe gate shapes provide clean cuts, smooth transitions, or transition-sensitive cuts. Each block also includes a gate, attack, release, and a dedicated gate delay.
Creative Sound Processing: Includes drive oversampling, wave modulation, asymmetry, bit depth and sample rate reduction, bit errors, noise characteristics, frequency shift, ring modulation, flanger, stereo width, mid and side shaping, dispersion, tape motion simulation, and a polyphonic resonator with chord, octave, tone, material, decay, softness, and stereo controls.
Envelope Editing Tools: Use up to 32 points per curve with adjustable tension, built-in shapes, copy and paste, reset, randomize, point marker selection, group move, vertical shift, and on/off controls for each envelope.
Generative tools: Randomize Rate Env, effect envelopes, all envelopes, block settings, or probability using multiple intensity levels. Disabled envelopes remain protected from randomization.
Probability Controls: Block probability determines whether the entire block will trigger, while cut probability creates controlled pauses and evolving rhythmic variations.
Mix and Volume for Each Block: Mix each block independently with the Block Mix function and boost its output by up to 200%, plus use the global Wet/Dry control and output stage.
Block Capture Processing: Capture the processed output of an individual block in WAV format, then drag it directly into a compatible DAW, save it elsewhere, or display it in the Explorer.
Preset System: Save and browse presets in nested folders, switch between factory and user presets, and organize your own presets using slash-style folder paths. Includes a collection of factory presets from erase the borders.
Scalable Themed Interface: Scalable vector interface with multiple different themes, theme-aware blocks, improved timeline feedback, colored envelope bars, and persistent window settings.
Click-Aware DSP: DAW-based predictive processing, smooth transitions between blocks, transient-aware pitch processing, high-quality interpolation modes, and adaptive input processing help you achieve clean sounds for drums, sustained bass, 808 tails, vocals, loops, and entire arrangements.
