PAA Audio – Not Another Glue-Comp v1.2.2 for WiN

A stereo compressor built on classic British VCA topology. Transformer saturation, automatic shutdown depending on the program, 4x oversampling.

I created it because I kept reaching for the same classic British console-style computer at every session, but none of the ones I could afford sounded right. They were too clean, too slow, or just not right. So I modeled the circuit myself.

Not Another Glue-Comp uses a VCA circuit with transformer saturation, which adds harmonic density without overloading the low frequencies. Compression responds to your program material: faster on transients, slower on sustained ones.

What it actually does?

• Software-dependent automatic release: release time adapts to your material, reacting faster to transients and slower to steady content
• Transformer saturation adds 2nd and 3rd order harmonics without distorting the low end
• VCA nonlinearities give it a distinctive effect you won’t get from pure digital designs
• 4x oversampling for alias-free handling of high frequency content

Use it on

• Mixer bus: Reduces gain by 1-3dB to provide grip without crushing
• Drum bus: amps up the punch and tightens up the kit
• Any stereo bus where you want density without smoothing out the dynamics
  

Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release, Makeup Gain, Mix. Plus a high-pass filter with a sidechain in the 30–185 Hz range to eliminate drums and bass from the detection circuit.
