The PSP McQ reproduces the sound and functionality of classic console equalizers, drawing inspiration from the versatile EQ sections of MCI consoles. While remaining faithful to the analog classics, the PSP McQ expands on the original concepts with a number of modern features, including adjustable high- and low-pass filters, resonance controls for the band-pass filters, optional bell-shaped modes for the low and high frequencies, and three nominal Q values for the mid-frequency filters.
The PSP McQ offers a variety of musical features, including gain-dependent Q-factor for mid-range bell filters. Its flexible design makes it equally useful for detail processing and for improving separation and clarity in a mix.
The output section also implements our second-generation SAT(uration) algorithm. It helps protect against digital clipping in software or hardware following the plug-in, while also adding a smooth, analog-style overdrive when the signal is amplified. The saturation block is located after the output level control in the PSP McQ’s internal signal path, and its upper limit is set just below 0 dBFS.
