Neumann w495 equalizers were used to master 90% of vinyl records released between the 1970s and 1990s. But even after this golden age, many mastering engineers still love this equalizer. Why? Because the w495 has wide EQ curves that can be used at incredible levels without losing musicality. The w495 is an easy-to-use tone shaper for individual tracks. But it can also enhance the presence and depth of the entire mix.
But we’ve enhanced the Pulsar W495 with all the key features you’d expect from a modern equalizer plugin, including visual curve editing for a faster workflow. The Pulsar w495 is an easy-to-use, powerful tone-shaping tool that faithfully reproduces the legendary 3-band equalizer, from channel EQ to mastering EQ.
The modern version of the
Pulsar w495 equalizer is a component-accurate model of the original device. From subtle range adjustments to the unique-sounding output transformers, the plugin version retains every aspect of the original device. The high-end range is widely known for its ability to enhance clarity without harshness, while the low-end adds weight without sacrificing clarity. If a source lacks punch, the midrange can be the perfect solution for boosting energy.
The Pulsar w495 offers options for each midrange/side frequency range. Reduce midrange frequencies only on the side channels to focus energy in the center of the stereo image. Add bass boost only to the center of the bass with the low-shelf midrange boost for richer lows. Boost high frequencies for a clear stereo signal by engaging the transparent high-shelf boost only on the side channels.
Pulsar W495 Midrange Processing:
Thanks to the thoughtful use of modern processors, the Pulsar w495 offers a compact design while utilizing powerful audio algorithms. A resizable interface, detailed metrics, and a well-thought-out selection of modern features make the Pulsar w495 an indispensable equalizer.
How does it sound?
Mastering:
No need to overthink it—just plug it into your amp and listen. Transparent and musical, the w495 is an easy-to-use three-band mastering equalizer for quickly balancing your mix. It expands the entire soundstage without becoming too harsh, even at extreme settings.
Synthesizer:
For musicians working with electronic instruments, synthesizers are often the primary instruments in any project. However, they can be overpowering and reveal their own character when it comes to finding the right spectral balance for their inclusion in a mix. The Pulsar W495 allows you to quickly and accurately adjust this balance with a ridiculously low CPU consumption.
W495’s sound comes in part from its output transformer (Haufe RK 756), which imparts a subtle coloration to the low end, especially on dynamic sources like the drum bus. The Pulsar w495 can easily add dimension to a bass drum, add airiness to cymbals, and add color to the midrange (or soften it, if needed). And all this in record time.
