From post-production studios to disco floors, from powerful live sound to rock, dub and metal studio projects, the distinctive rumble of the subharmonic synthesizer has been an engineer’s best-kept secret for years. Now, finally, you can get those low values in your favorite DAW application!
Peculiarities
Taking the classic “Boom Box” sound as its foundation, Lowender expands on the concept in several ways:
Firstly, it offers switchable frequency ranges so that the low frequencies can be matched to the program material.
Secondly, the generated subharmonics are passed through a gate adapted for low frequencies, which is useful for cleaning up unwanted bass (for example, between kick drum hits in a drum loop).
It’s simply magic. There’s nothing like it on the market.
Bob Katz
III, Lowender, passes the bass material through an output section consisting of an overdrive circuit and a low-pass filter. The movement or compression of the new low frequencies is necessary to even out their dynamics and allow them to fit well into the mix. The variable low-pass filter is designed to roll off the high harmonics of the overdrive and create a smooth low end—or you can leave some of them in for a more raspy bass.
