Tape

Softube’s versatile tape machine stands out from other tape emulators and can reproduce a wide range of tones, from subtle tape character to rich, warm tones.

An analog tape recorder smooths out the sound, imparting weight and coherence, transforming a recording from a collection of individual tracks into a cohesive and compelling musical piece. The Softube Tape Pack, with component and physical modeling of three different tape recorders, allows you to achieve vintage sound in a single device.

Simple and straightforward

Choose your favorite tape machine (A, B, or C) and adjust the Volume knob, or simply load one of the presets to give your tracks an analog tape character. Tape machines are processor-friendly. Use them on your main track or add one to each track for a retro feel. They deliver rich detail and texture without overloading your processor.

Choose according to your taste

Type A is based on a classic, high-end Swiss reel-to-reel tape machine, known and loved for its precision and linearity. Type B is much more colorful—it’s a transformer-based tape machine, which adds extra weight and richness to the low frequencies. Finally, Type C is based on a British tape machine with a distinctly vintage sound.

Tape Echoes’ exclusive Drive & Dirt features let you quickly and easily transition from soft realism to extravagant richness. Drive supports the preamp and tape distortion functions, while Dirt parameters affect tape speed, wobble, flutter, dropouts, and frequency response.

Connect the tape

The tap control mirrors the depth of sound of classic tape delay equipment. Simulating the sound, behavior, and timing of analog tape heads, it allows you to easily switch between one, two, or three taps. Feedback amplifies the taps, creating a natural analog effect.

Realism and Versatility

Tape Echoes feature realistic analog delay and spring reverb that work just like the hardware they’re based on. Use the Delay Time fader to adjust the first press time, and adjust the other two as you go. Place the reverb in parallel or before the delay line to seamlessly transition from authentic, clean analog to distortion-rich reverb.

Harmonics

Have you ever tried to add character to a track by adding distortion, only to end up with a washed-out, lifeless sound? Harmonics preserves the dynamics of the original signal, allowing you to control distortion without worrying about side effects.

The Distortion Dilemma

Guitars, vocals, drums, bass, and even synths often require extra punch to stand out in a mix, but distortion can sometimes ruin dynamics and create more problems than it solves. Too little distortion, and the sound won’t stand out or fill the space. Too much distortion, and detail and clarity will be lost.

Wasted Space

If you’re looking for an extreme digital effect with a lo-fi feel, Wasted Space is the perfect choice. Explore the retro aliasing artifacts that are all the rage right now and take them to the extreme. Add Wasted Space directly to your track to accentuate specific elements, or achieve a low-fi sound by applying it to your main track.

With its retro-futuristic interface and basic features, Wasted Space is the perfect tool for innovative sound design. With adjustable sample rate, you’ll quickly find the perfect lo-fi sound. Use the filter parameters to adjust distortion with values ​​of 12, 24, and 48 dB/octave. With the filter off, the sound will be maximally distorted, while 48 dB produces the smoothest sound. The high-pass slider reduces high-frequency distortion while preserving distorted lows, eliminating the boom that often occurs with bass buildup.
