The S1 uses a VCA detection circuit on a selected frequency range to detect signal peaks and increase the stereo signal spread accordingly. The image will become wider during high-energy transients to prevent phase drop.
You can select and mix various imaging algorithms, from Haas delay or classic mid-side correction to emulation of SRS transfer functions.
Characteristics
The input signal is first fed into a detection chain that responds to the average loudness of the song, where:
- Threshold controls the detection of the minimum peak,
- Speed controls the span of the moving average from the detection chain,
- Lowpass allows the detection input signal to be filtered using a biquad lowpass filter.
This detection circuit is used to dynamically adjust the stereo imaging of the sound:
- High Pass and Low Pass allow the stereo settings to be reduced to a single frequency band.
- Peak Gain is the stereo gain that will be applied when the detection circuit reaches its maximum value.
- Circuit allows the selection and combination of different imaging algorithms: binaural delay (Haas), head-related transfer functions (SRS) and mid-side gain (M/S).
The post-processing stage allows you to fine-tune the final render:
- Makeup applies negative makeup gain to compensate for induced stereo dispersion by reducing its average value,
- Comp reuses the input detection chain to apply VCA compression on the signal sides.
