The Golden Age Grand evokes the solo piano renaissance of the 1950s and 60s.
The warm, rich and impressionistic sound can be contextualized in both contemporary and classical settings.
1. High precision. Until 1975 .
The standard sound of the Golden Age Grand is unique and distinctive in itself.
The sound of a beautifully aged grand piano through vintage microphones, vintage preamps and a custom vintage console brings the sound of the golden age right to your fingertips.
2. On tape. Then he slowed down .
The TAPE button loads a second set of samples recorded on 2″ analog tape.
But we didn’t stop there, in addition, we slowed down the playback to 27 frames per second, giving the piano an organic and natural slow-motion sound.
3. In the digital age. Then stretched out .
The DIGITAL button turns on the third set of samples, where the samples are digitally time-stretched and the pitch is shifted down by a slight third.
This will give you a postcard piano sound, but with a lot of grand piano resonance!
In addition to the standard Golden Age Grand patch, there are 4 categories of presets…
Headphones – Designed with lofi hip-hop, soul, and r&b artists in mind.
Performances – Carefully crafted patches to match the sound of specific classical pianist performances from the 60s and 70s.
Recording – Inspired by pop records from the 70s to today’s top 40.
Scores – These patches have been crafted with taste, inspired by the music of both classic and contemporary films.
3 microphone positions .
Close Mics – The Neumann U67 stereo pair, placed very close, provides a clear and sincere sound.
Ribbon Mics – The AEA R88 stereo ribbon microphone, positioned from the player’s point of view, has a very warm and distinctive sound.
Room Mics – A pair of vintage Neumann KM86 microphones were placed at a distance in the studio to record widescreen piano sound.
Turn on nostalgia .
In the vein of some of our favorite analog devices, where you can press a few buttons for a subtle effect, or a small nondescript button to add some magic; we’ve added a “Nostalgia” button.
“What does it do?” you can ask? Well… let’s just say it makes the piano even more thoughtful. Try it! We think you’ll like it.
Legendary Piano.
The Yamaha grand piano we sampled for the Golden Age Grand has a history as rich as the Nashville music scene itself. Before officially becoming part of the Johnny Cash TV show, he spent years at the legendary Grand Ole Opry. It has been used in live performances by Ray Charles, Neil Young and many others.
