NEON is a Virtual Drummer plugin from UJAM for nu-disco and dance-pop-inspired drum sets. These are characterized by a dense, punchy, and prominent drum sound, combined with a driving, forward-moving rhythm.

NEON’s rhythm engine, inspired by 1970s disco legends like Chic and the Bee Gees, imbues the music with the organic vitality that only a true drummer can provide. The recorded drum kits are original vintage kits from legendary manufacturers like Ludwig and Rogers.

We recorded them in a small studio using microphones typical of the era and outboard processing devices such as the Sennheiser MD 421 and Neve 1073. This pristine vintage drum quality is then processed on a modern mixing console powered by NEON’s Virtual Drummer, which is controlled by six mixing presets. The combination of vintage recording and modern processing is what gives NEON its signature sound.
