United Plugins has released Voxessor. Designed as a versatile processor for speech applications, Voxessor shapes your voices, podcasts and dialogue recordings with tools such as automatic gain compensation, compression, dessing and more.
The booming fields of podcasting and content production for YouTube and social media have one thing in common: you need great-sounding speech recordings, and you need them quickly, ideally without the long and complex processing chains used in professional dialogue and voice-over production. This is where simplified universal speech enhancement plugins like Voxessor come to the rescue.
Developed by Soundevice Digital and distributed by the Plugin Alliance, the plugin contains various tools designed to help you achieve crisp, well-balanced audio with good intelligibility without over-complicating it. Rather than confronting you with a panel full of confusing options for fine-tuning your settings, Voxessor offers a set of simple controls that let you get things done quickly.
First, there is a single knob EQ that lets you tweak different parameters of male and female voices. You can also adjust the intensity. Voxessor also has a smart matching algorithm. It analyzes the original signal and adjusts it to match the “ideal” voice, whatever it may be.
The dynamics section offers a configurable de-esser, one knob compressor and one knob gate. Processing the dynamics of a speech recording can be challenging. If these lightweight processors do it right, they can be a huge time-saver, especially for users with no background in sound engineering. Finally, there is automatic gain compensation, which automatically controls the fader to compensate for level mismatches.
If you are good with compressors, de-essers, and equalizers, you may need a few more options. But if you’re looking for a quick way to improve your speech recordings without worrying about the details, Voxessor seems to do the job just fine.
