RawPrime is a physically modeled hybrid synthesizer built using custom digital and analog electronic components developed for the telecommunications industry in the 1970s and 1980s.
RawPrime is a real-world device built using vintage electronics. It takes a unique approach to synthesis: it first intentionally generates a massive number of superimposed signals, then uses these signals as the sole sound source.
An expressive analog filter, a suite of modulators accessible via a matrix interface, two multi-effects slots, and a creative polyphonic arpeggiator complete the picture: RawPrime aims to become one of the most beloved vintage synths from the past that never was.
About RawPrime
It’s astonishing how profound and distinctive some vintage devices can be. They were built decades ago using components with wide electrical tolerances and manufacturing processes that were far from today’s standards of perfection. But they sound magnificent, expressive, and truly bold.
For this reason, RawPrime uses telecom-grade components from the late 1970s and early 1980s: digitally controlled oscillators (NCOs) and digital-to-analog converters (DACs), carefully modeled in a virtual environment using the real-time computing power of modern processors.
Internally, these hybrid digital-analog components are arranged in a very original way, allowing them to generate a large number of overtones solely through the superposition of signals created by imperfect vintage technology.
All of this raw audio material is then processed through a distinctive, two-pole, resonant, analog low-pass filter on a diode ladder with a special, non-standard design.
An additional non-resonant analog high-pass filter, three analog envelope generators, two digital sine wave generators, and a full modulation matrix open up a wide range of sound creation possibilities.
Two insert/main effect slots and a creative multi-mode polyphonic arpeggiator complete the configuration, turning RawPrime into a premium synthesizer for live performance and studio work.
Characteristics
Physical modeling of hybrid digital-analog equipment achieved through the Advanced Component Simulation (ACS) approach. Oscillators, filters, envelopes, etc., are created while preserving their original architecture, with all the microinstabilities and imperfections of analog technology.
- Full 64-bit precision processing for every single aspect of the simulation
- A complete all-in-one setup: polyphonic hybrid digital/analog synthesizer with built-in arpeggiator + analog and digital inserts/master effects.
- Four-voice polyphony (modeling of voice components) – works the same as monophonic, including an additional unison mode
- Thanks to the old method of polyphony control with repeated assignment of the first voice (instead of cycling)
- A compact, real-world reproducible device built using a 100% original synthesis method.
- 100% Original sound generator, modeled after lo-fi, telecom-grade NCO and DAC components from the late 1970s/early 1980s, creating overtones from specially generated dither signals.
- Separate controls for overtone generation, morphing and mixing
An expressive two-pole resonant analog low-pass filter based on a diode ladder (modeled after real hardware using topology-preserving conversion and a zero-delay feedback approach) with a very specific, unusual design.
Additional 1-pole non-resonant analog high-pass filter (modeled after real hardware using topology-preserving transformation and a zero-delay feedback approach)
Three analog envelope generators (two of which are re-assignable and one is hard-wired to the analog amplifier) with a steep slew rate (0.3 ms), modeled after the Curtis CEM3310, provide the same capacitor charge/discharge response as the original analog circuits.
- Two freely configurable digital low-frequency sine wave generators (frequency from 0.02 Hz to 30 Hz)
- With a full modulation matrix allowing for easy and simple assignment of sources and destinations
- Built-in creative multi-mode polyphonic arpeggiator based on note priority
