Florida-based producer, designer, and artist prblm is an undisputed pillar of SoundCloud history.

In 2018, long before terms like “digicore” were even coined, he co-founded the Novagang collective, which would go on to repeatedly redefine the boundaries of underground rap and help launch artists like xaviersobased and quinn. Listen to any track uploaded by Novagang, and you’ll find ideas that would become mainstream trends years later.

Since then, prblm has collaborated with Fakemink, Ways, feardorian, midwxst, kuru, Surf Gang, and more, released solo music and genre-defining side projects like DJ YZMA, and created acclaimed drum kits. Their “HD 808” (which you might know as “Tiktok 808”) has become an indispensable element of FYP and throughout modern music.

In his first official set for Splice, “SUPERNOVA,” prblm returns to Novagang’s roots while expanding his palette for the next big thing. Drawing inspiration from house, Brazilian funk, afrobeat, new jack swing, and trap, prblm creates a set that’s as versatile as it is eclectic.

Sweet, playful melodies contrast with the most sinister Serum growls and explosive, Brazilian-inspired grooves. “The drums are my favorite part,” prblm explains on Discord. “Most of it is foley, Serum, and various processed instruments.” The effects primarily consist of prblm’s own drum kit, slammed with screeching, high-feedback delays, a reminder of prblm’s long history of sounds echoing through stages and taking on a life of their own.
