There are many powerful equalization plugins available. So why did we create a plug-in version of MPEQ-1? The legendary MPEQ-1 hardware does things that even most digital equalizers can’t. But despite years of requests to bring it to the plug-in world, we held off—because we felt that if we were going to do it, it had to bring something truly new to the digital world. Just as hardware MPEQ-1 was unprecedented in the analog realm, a plug-in had to be unprecedented in the digital realm as well.

This is what we achieved with the MPEQ-1 Superparametric Saturation Equalizer plugin. It performs all the functions of the hardware: variable shape, exceptionally versatile filters, a wide range of Q-factor adjustment, and a unique phase mode. We meticulously recreated everything that made the original design iconic.

But the plugin goes even further. Each EQ band now has its own dedicated saturation stage, allowing you to add rich harmonic coloration from band to band. Boost your high frequencies to saturation while simultaneously reducing the mids and leaving the lows clear. Press the snare drum keys until it sings while maintaining the clarity of the high notes. This level of control is truly unprecedented.

This is a new kind of equalizer, and once you’ve used it, you’ll find it hard to go back. The MPEQ-1 plug-in’s functions and controls are the same as the hardware, with a few key additions. We’ve added a completely new distortion section; for each range, you can adjust the degree and style of distortion. We’ve also added a beautiful RTA with exceptionally high low-frequency resolution. The EQ bands can be controlled directly on the RTA using familiar digital parameter controls or using the hardware graphical representation below.
