Polaris is an echo/reverb plugin inspired by the early hardware digital reverbs of the late 1970s (such as the Ursa Major SST-282) and capable of providing echo, ambience and reverb from a single multi-stage delay line.

When hardware digital reverbs first appeared on the market, they were very expensive. Most manufacturers were already using comb and full-flow filter chains (providing smoother reverberation, but requiring more resources and chips). Other methods also involved using a single multi-stage delay line to create acceptable reverberation at an affordable price.

The idea is so simple, yet so effective: you mix a few unmodulated leads (Early Reflections) with the rest of the modulated leads (Diffusion) to create a cheap but convincing reverb.

We’ve improved this method by adding an Echo section that cycles alongside the Diffusion section, allowing for longer reverb tails. You can also easily edit all leads to create your own room responses, resonant combs, customized Karplus-style delay lines, chorus, flanger, vibrato, and much more.

We’ve also added new features such as Shimmer, an internal sample rate reduction (useful for achieving a vintage digital sound), Stereo Width (a ping-pong delay effect), and Swell. The latter smooths out transients in the incoming signal, and its attack time automatically matches the delay time. This new feature is perfect for ambient guitars, intense endless pads, and much more.

In version 1.5, we’ve added Pre-Delay, Modulation Boost, and a 3-band Feedback EQ to the new Echo Editor page.
