J60 | Six voices, one chorus, and the sound of the early 80s. Based on an original circuit, not samples.
Tested against the instruction manual. The manual lists the settings that each unit receives at the factory. We tested the J60 against the same list: filter oscillation, envelope time, LFO frequency, and chorus.
No samples. The oscillators, filter, VGA, and envelope operate as circuits while playing. Nothing is played from recordings.
Chorus I, II, and both together. Buffered delay lines are also modeled, including the earlier, slower version that can be heard on the factory demo recording.
253 presets. Both factory banks, example patches from the original owner’s manual, and 98 of our own presets, divided into 11 categories. If that’s not enough for you, there are four preset sets with 40 sounds each.
The original is a simple instrument: one oscillator per voice, one filter, one envelope, and a chorus. Much of its sound comes from how these elements behave in a real circuit, not from a list of functions. This is precisely the behavior we modeled.
You’ll notice this when you start playing. The filter changes color as resonance increases, short envelopes sound truly sharp, and sustained chords vibrate slightly rather than sounding frozen.
What you get?
- Six voices: sawtooth, pulse with PWM, sub-oscillator and noise, high-pass filter, resonant low-pass filter and one envelope. Same layout as the original panel.
- Arpeggiator: Up, down and up-down in a range of one to three octaves, in free mode or synced to your DAW.
- Memory section: banks, patch numbers, manual mode and record, plus transpose and hold keys.
- Save and load tape in the original cassette format.
- Unison from the instruction manual: all six voices on the same note. There is no detune because all oscillators run from the same clock generator. Add chorus if you want to make the sound wider.
- Eco, Normal and High quality. Eco saves CPU resources during operation. Export is always done in High mode. Works in the range of 44.1 to 192 kHz.
PCCN
Most emulators simulate the output: a curve, a filter formula, or a recorded waveform. PCCN simulates the circuit itself and calculates it in real time as the sound passes through it. This is why details such as filter color or chorus movement are reproduced just as they would be on the hardware.
