Although inspired by the DBX 118, PSP DRC is not a direct emulation of the original hardware. Instead, it reinterprets and expands on the original concept, adding additional features to enhance its usefulness in a variety of audio processing scenarios. This unique approach allows users to use both compression and expansion across the entire dynamic range of the signal. In addition, the processor can isolate and process signals above or below the threshold, providing a more precise level of control.
The PSP DRC also offers an optional compressor-expander pair function, which can be implemented by setting the ratio to 2:1 in the compressor and 1:2 in the expander. The availability of advanced side chain functions and external side chain support further expands the capabilities of the PSP DRC, turning it into a complete compounding system.
